Have you or someone in your house had the flu this year? The dreaded flu took residence in many homes and communities this season. If your social media streams were anything like mine, friend after friend remarked about being held hostage to the aches and pains of the flu this year.  My history with flu prevention dates back to when I was immune suppressed as a recent cancer patient, and then continued as faced the front lines of germs as a classroom teacher.  (Truthfully, even as a long time advocate of the flu vaccine, I was happy not to be teaching during a flu season that took hold of so many.)
I don’t know about you, but being sick is one of my least favorite past times, so when it comes to fighting the flu, I believe in taking any and all precautions.  Many of us joke that the world comes to an end when our spouses get sick, but truth be told, I am NOT a bundle of joy to be around when I get sick either. And my daughter is easy to diagnose when not feeling well as her normally perky self that talks while brushing her teeth is suddenly too tired to even try talking.  Luckily for us this year we have avoided the “official” flu thanks to our “stay healthy” weapons of choice are to get the Flu shot, and then extra hand washing, more hand washing, and even more hand washing.  (did I mention hand washing?)

There are of course more habits that can help us fight the flu. Tips, resources, and information from experts are things that we can all add to our parenting bag of tricks to protect us during the rest of this flu season and in years to come, which is why The Motherhood is joining forces with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to answer these questions and more to help all of us become more knowledgeable about the expertise, information, and tools that people and communities need to protect their health.
The twitter party will cover topics like:  How long is flu season? When is the best time to receive the flu vaccine? What are healthy flu-fighting habits to teach children?.
